How I Found Relief from Sciatica
Hippocrates once said: “It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has.”

I’d like to share my short story that I know will resonate with you…

In 1993 when I was in my 2nd year in the university while playing a game of flag football with other students I was knocked to the ground (yes I missed the catch). I wasn’t able to get back to my feet because of crippling pain in my lower back.

When I finally stood up, the pain in my lower back was so intense that I could not take more than a baby step to move.

The pain was so intense that tears were flowing from my eyes. I was rushed to the hospital and after waiting for what seemed hours (I couldn’t bend to sit down) an intern was sent to attend to me.
After X-rays examination, she pulled and pushed my legs, all while I was screaming in pain (picture a 6ft. 1in. 20-year-old man screaming).

In the end, the diagnosis was that nothing was wrong, just get more exercise. (At the time I was as fit as 20 years old athlete).

I left the hospital still in pains and not able to walk for the next few days, crawling to the washroom and otherwise laying on my bed.

After several days, a friend in my dorm gave me the name of a chiropractor he had used. I had never visited a chiropractor before but anything to reduce the pain & allow me to walk was worth trying.
When I got to the chiropractor with my X-rays films he immediately diagnosed that I had displaced vertebrae in my lower back and twisted vertebrae in my upper back.

He had me lie on his table and within minutes I felt immense relief. It was a miracle so I returned to him every day for the next month and then every other day for the rest of the school year.

He also prescribed 3 months of bed rest. (Imagine being in a University dorm 1st year of university and told you had to be in bed for 3 months!!). Well, I did it but the pain never really subsided.

Instead, I built up a tolerance (Thanks to Robaxacet –C with Codeine) and just lived my life but with much less physical activity and always being cautious that I might hurt my back further.
For the next 25 years, I would continue seeing chiropractors. It started at 3 times a week and slowly it became once a month, once every 3 months, or as needed.

Basically, every time I felt my back getting to a point of unmanageable pain that I couldn’t control I would visit. Each visit brought minor relief but it only lasted 1-2 days.

Throughout this period I would have major flare-ups where my back would go into spasm so intensely that I would again find myself unable to stand and need to crawl to the washroom or to get a drink, etc.

Each episode lasted 3-4 days and took weeks for the pain to actually subside back to its ‘normal’ level. These episodes would occur at least once a month for many years. Only in the past 4-5 have they subsided to approximately 1-2 per year.

Over the years I tried different suggestions from people ranging from massage, infrared therapy, stretch therapy, many muscle creams and other treatments.
But guess what?

They all yielded very temporary or no relief. But I kept on trying because the pains are not what I can just absorb and see it as part of my life.

After 25 years I was getting to the end of my rope with the nagging pain. I asked my doctor to get me an MRI.

He did and the results showed a degenerated disc in my lower back. (AHA! Proof something was at the root of all of this.).

The prognosis: normal degeneration for someone in their late 40s. No relief.

At this point, I resigned to keep taking Robaxacet-C when needed and continue to live with the pain.

Then I met my close friend, Rob in June 2017!
After a brief conversation with Rob the topic turned to back pain and he told me about Ian’s program - The Back Pain Relief 4 Life.

I was very intrigued. (I got my degree in psychology. No, not what I started out for, but what can you do when in bed for 3 months other than learning a lot about people.)

Since I think no option should be ignored, I took down the name and was planning to pick up the program in a few days. The following week when I saw Rob again he purchased the program & sent me the copy of the program.

I sat down the next evening and read the program. I was blown away by Ian’s concept.  Ian explains back pain is not the main problem. That’s right.
“Back pain” is not a diagnosis.

If you’re seeing a doctor and they’re telling you that’s what you have, you’re not being told the whole truth – you’re being lied to.
Let’s put it this way:

Back pain is only a symptom. The doctor is only labeling a symptom. They’re not telling you what is actually wrong!

Now when they put a label on your pain, I totally get how good that makes you feel in the moment.

But what happens next?

They prescribe some heavy duty Ibuprofen to calm the inflammation, maybe ship you off to a physical therapist, and then they’re onto the next patient.
And you already know how that works, don’t you?

Let’s face it:
The Reality is a Lot of Doctors Fail to Fix Their Back Pain Patients

They return repeatedly with the same pain, the same issue, the same cry for help.

The doctor eventually begins to wonder whether the patient even wants to get better.

Imagine that! It doesn’t quite occur to them it could be the treatment that’s not working.

And that’s because their “back pain” diagnosis just becomes an easy way of sending the patient home happy.

For the record, any number of things can be the true cause of your back pain…
  • Spinal disc herniation pressing on one of the lumber or sacral nerve roots
  •  The spinal canal narrowing and compressing the spinal cord (cauda equina) or sciatic nerve roots. This is called spinal lumbar stenosis.
  • Piriformis syndrome – a controversial condition that varies from a “very rare” cause to contributing to up to 8% of low back or buttock pain.
  • Tumors impinging on the spinal cord or the nerve roots.
  • A strained back muscle spasming and painfully squeezing a nearby nerve or nerve sheathe…
Multiply these issues by the number of vertebrae and muscles in the back and…

You can appreciate how much work it can be to accurately diagnose the root problem. Even with technology like MRIs.

And this is why most doctors feel they’re doing the best they can with the resources available.

That’s why Ian recommends that we take a more self-directed, holistic approach to fixing back pain.

So… How Do We Fix the Pain and Stiffness?

Ian recommends 8 specific movements
These 8 movements are never seen before and totally unlike “the sheets” of exercises you get from chiropractors or doctors.

Instead, we “wake up” certain muscles and restore muscle balance. That’s key.

Then in certain areas of the back, we jump-started pathways so vital oxygen and nutrition could get in and help her heal.

That’s the holistic way to relieve and completely get rid of the back pain.

It’s not uncommon, but as in my case, it took just two 30-minute sessions.

Two 30-minute sessions and I kissed goodbye to back pain.

Over the next 2 weeks, an interesting thing began to occur. I noticed my pain had subsided yet nothing in my world had changed.

My stress level is still very high (I am in the early stages of starting my own business). The only real change was trying Ian’s recommended stretch.

It has been 2 months since I tried Ian’s program and I am thrilled to say that I have been virtually pain-free for that time. When an occasional symptom  arises I simply tell myself to stop and try that 8-movements stretch.

Yes, there are ways to get out of pain.

And the sweet part is…

They don’t require medication……no surgery……no injections.

You don’t require months of physiotherapy to get out of pain.

You just have to restore your body’s natural functional movement and muscle balance and allow it to heal naturally.

I give credit to Ian Hart program and its straightforward approach to understanding the real reason behind back pain.

I hope my story will encourage you to explore the program and see if it can help you in managing your pain. It has been a godsend for me.
